Debbie Irwin, Professional Female Voice Over Artist
Over her nearly 20 years in the voice over business, Debbie Irwin has voiced thousands of projects for clients around the globe. She has been the voice of The Statue of Liberty, an evil British Queen (in the style of Cersei Lannister from the Game of Thrones), the ancient Egyptian Princess Isis (there’s a funny story there), and even that automated voice you hear when calling a company and wish you were speaking with a real person!
Debbie’s experience as a female voice-over artist ranges from highly technical and complicated medical narration to intimate storytelling in documentaries, becoming characters— large and small, young and old, nice and nasty— in video games, to being an engaging teacher for kids’ language development, corporate e-learning, and the ubiquitous commercial found on TV, radio, Pandora, the web, in stores, on planes and anywhere else you can imagine.
With this breadth of experience comes an in-depth knowledge of vocal techniques and skills essential for producing high quality, professional recordings. In her state-of-the-art, fully equipped sound-proof home studio she can accommodate directed sessions with casting directors, agents, ad agencies, creative directors, writers, production studios, and clients, all at once. She’s known for her playfulness, quick wit, expertise in her craft, fast turnaround, and is a delight to work with.

About Debbie
Professional voice-overs artists require excellence in many different skill sets. First, they need to have both vocal and acting training. It is just as important to understand how your voice and breathing work, as to how to convey a message truthfully for an audio medium. In addition to all the technical know-how, voiceover talent must be versatile and adaptable to different character traits. Voice over actors must be comfortable playing and improvising, and be able to come up with character voices and accents on the spot. They must be able to be flexible with the tone and mode of the content they present.
Though Debbie is often asked to embody the attitude and voice of an evil queen, she can portray mature and confident older women, as well as the warm, motherly caregiver. She is the recipient of NYWIFT’s Best Actress award for her portrayal of Ayn Rand in a short film entitled I: Ayn Rand. More than the acting chops, she has the experience in microphone technique, timing, nuance, cadence, and stamina, as well as the ability to collaboratively be able to take direction, which is all crucial to the process.
Debbie has all these attributes and skills in spades, but the area she excels in is medical narration.
The Expert in Medical Voiceover
Medical narration is a specialized niche in the voiceover world, one that requires a high level of skill and proficiency. Debbie works with global pharmaceutical companies and boutique medical animation firms, academic teaching hospitals and major universities to deliver just the right balance of intelligence, authority, warmth, and clarity to every project. Her years of lending her voice to everything from medical explainer videos for patients and medical professionals, to pharmaceutical marketing, to medical-legal recordings and more, are what make her the expert in the medical narration industry.

Why Experience Matters
Debbie is sought after because she can deliver a range of vocal styles from a real person to a trusted doctor, pharmaceutical sales rep to hospital administrator. She has voiced them all and understands what is expected for medical voiceover needs. These kinds of narration need a voice that can reach their listeners, whether they be medical professionals or patients, by speaking in a way they can understand. A female voiceover talent who is familiar with the flow of these diverse scripts, who comes in prepared, asks smart questions, understands her audience, ensures that tongue-twisting terminology, Important Safety Information (ISI), and Fair Balance (FB) language are all made easy for the listener to hear, is the person clients love to hire.
Finding a Partner
Debbie’s deep dive into this genre means she understands the nuances of production timelines, the implications of the medical/legal review process, and the importance of collaboration with her clients. She knows its best to work closely with clients from the very beginning of the process in order to provide added value across the board. That could mean hiring additional voice actors for a multi-character eLearning course, sourcing royalty-free music for customization, or hiring a composer to create an original score so that the entire sound package is as impactful as the scientific messaging itself.
Debbie has worked with a diverse group of voice over actors, audio engineers, writers, composers and producers, and is confident that when hired, she has the resources and network of skilled professionals to assist in creating the best final product possible. She believes that working productively and cohesively with a highly skilled team ensures the best and most successful outcome.
Evolving Trends
With the healthcare industry changing every day, communicating health information in a clear and compelling way is more important than ever. Visual science storytelling now includes augmented reality, virtual reality, mobile apps, and speech applications. Debbie has worked with it all and is able to adapt to new formats with ease.
The one thing that remains at the very foundation of communicating all this vital information through voiceover is the human connection. That is what Debbie brings as a female voice over talent, both to the process of working together and to the project itself. She has a passion for the medical industry and an understanding of the text with all its nuanced needs to be communicated clearly. And as for that tongue-twisting medical jargon? That doesn’t make her sweat a bit!
So relax, the female voice that will bring your words to life is just a click away.
